Qian is primarily written for children aged 6 to 10, but many parents who have read the story tell us they found themselves just as moved by its message.
The Yi Jing, I Ching, or Book of Changes, is a 2,000-year-old Chinese classic that has influenced philosophy, art and storytelling for generations. Qian reimagines some of its timeless themes, such as courage, growth and navigating change, through magical adventures children can relate to.
Yes. Qian and the Secret of the Water Dragons is only the beginning. Inspired by the 64 symbols of the Yi Jing, the series will follow Qian through sixty-four adventures exploring the many experiences that shape a life.
Qian is the name of the first symbol of the Yi Jing. It represents creativity, initiative, courage and the energy of new beginnings; qualities that shape the young dragon's journey throughout the story.
The first book is being developed in English, French, Spanish and Hebrew, with the hope of reaching children and families around the world.
The book is currently being illustrated and prepared for publication. Subscribers will be the first to receive updates, preview artwork and early access to the crowdfunding campaign.
Children grow up with Greek myths, fairy tales and legends from many cultures. Yet the stories and symbols that have shaped Chinese thought for thousands of years remain largely absent from children's literature. Qian was created to open a door to that extraordinary world through wonder, adventure and imagination.
The best way to support Qian today is to join the mailing list and share the project with friends, parents, teachers and anyone who believes in the power of stories to help children grow.
